Saturday afternoon I went over my grandmother's house, of course planning on spending the weekend with her. If you guys are like I am, your grandmother is one of the most ah-maze-ing
human beings in your life. So after catching two buses and walking a block up, I get to my Nana's and we're having a good time laughing and sharing family stories. My grandmother is funny as hell, so I was busting guts the whole time I was there. We grabbed a bite to eat and after awhile came back to her house.
We were watching the diving part of the Olympics and all of a sudden my grandmother stands up and shouts at the top of her lungs in pain. I look and her leg is swollen as hell. Now my grandmother has problems with her leg from time to time, she goes to her doctor and everything for it. But this time was the worst pain she has ever been in. I call my mother and we take her to the hospital. After only ten minutes in the waiting room, one of the nurses come and my mother goes with my Nana. I was in the the waiting room for hours without my mother giving me any news. This only made me even more worried then before
"What if they have to give her surgery? What if she goes to sleep and never wake up? What if something life-threatening is the cause of it?" I prayed twice and put my ipod on to calm my nerves(BTW, was no such help).
On top of me being worried, it felt like it was literally 20 degrees in there. Now try to imagine being in that kind of condition with a tube top on...can you say Jack and Rose much? I felt as though I was slowly turning into a popsicle.
By the end of the day, all the bloodwork and x-rays came out fine(thank the lord). The doctor told us that her arthitis plus high blood pressure is the cause. My Nana stopped taking her blood pressure pills a long time ago so they gave her a prescription for that and another prescription of strong pain killer pills. I'm so relieved that my grandmother came out of there with good news. The whole fiasco with my grandmother last night opened the eyes of many of my family members. Alot of them have their own "lives" and barely call or visit my grandmother and see if she's breathing. With the hospital scare last night, all of her sons and daughters(my aunts and uncles) got out of their "asshole mentality." Family should always come first in your life, no matter what. Hopefully my so called family will check on her everyday now, not just after something like that has occured.
